Once the scanning process lets the firefighters know that the temperature has decreased, ventilating the scene of the fire to increase visibility by getting rid of smoke and steam can be the next step.
To effectively ventilate a space, it is essential to create at least two openings: one serving as an inlet for fresh air and the other functioning as an exhaust or outlet for the smoke and hot gases. The strategic placement of these openings is crucial, and one must carefully consider the direction of the wind when planning the ventilation. Ventilating against the wind can be particularly challenging and inefficient, as the wind can force smoke and heat back into the building, hampering efforts to clear the air.

SAVE is a dynamically applied method where each step can be used in any order. Developed by firefighters for firefighters.
