When Cobra Senior Instructor Carl Batchelor delivers Cobra training, he takes a practical approach, no matter if it’s in the UK, US or mainland Europe.
“Firefighters are hands-on learners. They like touching stuff, prodding stuff, breaking stuff usually if they can,” says Carl, a 32-year veteran of the West Midlands Fire Service in the UK who became a Cobra Senior Instructor in 2022.
“So the more time we spend out on the yard the better, I think. I try and keep the classroom part to a minimum and just get people out there. I like to see people show us what they’ve learned.”
It seems to be a popular approach.
“I’m pleased to say the feedback is generally very positive,” he says.
